2012 Plant Hardiness Zone Map

It's about that time. Time to start planning your garden and planting in your Lifetime Raised Garden Beds. Here in Utah the weather has been unseasonably warm. I am still being careful, however, and not planting too early... a surprise snow storm in June is not that unheard of here. Have you heard about the new Plant Hardiness map from the FDA? The 2012 Plant Hardiness Zone Map has a few surprises for our nation’s gardeners. Due to the warming trend in our climate lately, northerners may be able to successfully grow plants they weren't able to g

New Lifetime Dual Compost Tumbler Now Available

With Spring just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about your garden. Here in Utah, it has felt like Spring all winter long. We have had a very mild winter. I fear, however, there is more snow to come which means the tulips and daffodils are in for a rude awaking.  It’s a good time to start building up your compost reserves to feed those plants that will feed you this summer. Lifetime is still very much in the composter business and we have had tremendous success with our composters. I feel we have helped to make another step in "greening up" our planet with the vast amounts of Lifetime composters that are composting away in yards all over the world. I'm excited to share with you that because of the success of our composters, we have developed a new version based on feedback from our customers! As you may know, a key element to getti

Building Our Lifetime Shed - Step 1

Okey-dokey. So, our Lifetime shed arrived and we read through the assembling directions.  Now that we had the general idea of what we were about to undertake,  we were ready to start building our shed!   Well, sort of.  Before we could actually start assembling our Lifetime shed, we had to prepare the shed site. As you may recall, we plan to put our 8’x5’ Lifetime shed right up against our back fence.  But, our yard has a pretty significant slope and we can only dig about 6” before we hit solid rock…practically boulders in some spots!  And, lucky us, we also had a tree stump

Yum! BBQ Rat!

Like most people, I enjoy firing up the BBQ grill to cook dinner outside. I’m usually a big fan of steaks, marinated pork loins, and the occasional chicken breasts. Last week, however, I almost tried a new cut of meat… RAT!! Ugh. My husband opened the lid to light the grill and, much to his surprise, a rat was scurrying around under the rack! Unfortunately, this isn’t our first rat encounter. About a month ago, I was in our backyard and saw two rats run across our wooden fence. I FREAKED! We just had friends in a subdivision a few miles down the road who had one rat do $8,000 damage to their new house when a rat in their attic chewed through AC lines! And now, the nasty little vermin are daring to venture into my yard. Let me make it clear &nd

New Video Instructions To Help Assemble Your Shed!

Wow! Who would have thought our little homemade ‘How to Build our Shed’ video would have gotten so much attention. This little video one of our employees and her husband posted of building their shed at home a few years ago has more than 111,400 views. Our customers have told us how much they appreciate having videos along with the instructions to help guide them through their shed assembly. I am happy to announce we’ve provided even more shed assembly help videos. We have been working hard on producing videos that are specific to the various shed models we produce. We have taken the more difficult parts of our instruction manuals, as rated by our customers, and turned them into step-by-step videos. Customers can view these on their smart phones while out back building their s

How to Compost: Best Guide to Using a Compost Tumbler

There are a lot of materials in a household that go to waste simply because we can’t find a use for them. We run into leftovers at home that go into the trash, old newspapers we’ve already read, and even some dry leaves and plants from cleaning up the yard. While it’s always an option to throw these things out, many homeowners are looking for alternatives to get more use out of the waste they produce. Learning how to compost allows homeowners to convert the waste they produce into compost that brings more life to their lawn and garden.

Building Our Lifetime Shed – Step 2

Since it’s been over a week since I last blogged, you’re probably hoping that building our shed really didn’t really take this long!  Don’t worry, it didn’t.  I just haven’t had a chance to sit down and write about it amidst all of our Thanksgiving festivities, preparations for family visiting, and Christmas decorating. As you’ll recall, after almost a full day’s work, we finally had our ground leveled and our wood platform built for our shed.  We strategically planned to build our 8’x5’ Lifetime shed on Veteran’s Day since Mike would have the day off, but the kids would both be in preschool.  We were under a ticking time clock– five hours of uninterrupted, kid-fre
