Well, the election is over! Now, the real work begins. Here in Utah, Governor Herbert was re-elected to a second term. And during his acceptance speech, he mentioned empowering the private sector to grow the economy and how Utah is doing better than about any place in America. To learn more about the manufacturing private sector, Governor Herbert actually toured our factory here in the Freeport Center last week. He first met briefly with our president, Richard Hendrickson, to gain insight on how government can better help Utah manufacturing companies and then he addressed a small group of Lifetime employees saying, “Lifetime Products is a great example of a homegrown Utah business competing successfully in a global marketplace. Their commitment to innovation and providing quality products keeps hundreds of Utahns employed and helps drive our state economy forward.” And that’s right—our mission is just that. “Lifetime will produce high quality, innovative products while growing profitably and providing opportunities for our people.”
After that, we were able to take him around the factory and show him our plastics and metals facilities. I must say, I love watching the faces of people who have never see Lifetime’s factory before. And Governor Herbert was no different. He was astounded to see the size and capability of our metals facility and the overhead cranes that move our very large and heavy coils of steel (thousands of pounds) to our slitter machine. And, we were able to show him how our kayaks are blow-molded in our plastics facilities, which he was impressed to see as well.
In all, it was a great experience to spend a little time with Governor Herbert and see his interest in Lifetime Products. We look forward to his second term in office and what great things he will do for Utah.
