Untitled.jpgIf there’s one thing we love at Lifetime, it’s food.  Let’s be honest here … who doesn’t?! So earlier this summer, employees started growing their own gardens for fresh produce, including some right here at Lifetime! But the hard work put into growing veggies isn’t where all the fun is. It’s in the eating. So for two months, we've been hosting our very own Farmers Market.

Every Tuesday from August till September 25, Lifetime employees have been exchanging produce with each other during our Harvest Exchange. We’ve seen gorgeous peppers, corn, tomatoes, lettuce, kale, and just about anything else you can imagine.  The best part about this, is all the food that hasn’t been picked up by employees has been donated to the local Food Bank to benefit members of our community. Often, having fresh vegetables in the home is a difficult thing, and that little extra help goes a long way.

And since we’re fans of competition, what goes better with a Farmers Market than a good ol’ fashioned Cook-Off?  We’ve hosted a variety of contests featuring the produce from our gardens. As each dish was judged, every Lifetime employee who visited the Market got a taste of the cook-off that day.  Amazing chili dishes, peach desserts, cookies, and brownies have been making my Tuesdays end with a little joy in my stomach!

The Lifetime Farmers Market has been a great place for our employees and their families to help each other. I, for one, got to meet new faces, and try a lot of new recipes that just about made me swoon.  I can’t tell you how great the peach cobbler or the caramel apples were.

This Harvest Exchange helped us share ideas for becoming self-reliant and promote healthier eating habits.  We have two more weeks of this great event! With two more cook-offs to go! I am SO excited for the Salsa cook-off next week, and the week after, on the 25th, we’ll have the pumpkin and gourd cook-off. Although this Farmers Market is only for Lifetime Employees, we hope it’ll encourage you to get involved in your own communities and seek out the foods of the season! Healthy Eating!
