So earlier this summer, employees started growing their own gardens for fresh produce, including some right here at Lifetime! But the hard work put into growing veggies isn’t where all the fun is. It’s in the eating. So for two months, we've been hosting our very own Farmers Market. Every Tuesday from August till September 25, Lifetime employees have been exchanging produce with each other during our Harvest Exchange. Once a year, Lifetime employees volunteer time to serve our communities around us. With the work we did at the Utah State University Botanical Center this year, it got some of our employees thinking. And not just thinking….oh no! It was a surge of excitement! The excitement became contagious and a small group of employees pooled their teamwork to start their own vegetable garden in a small concrete garden box in front of their building. Just when you think things couldn’t possibly get better…they do! Lifetime is now one of seven businesses actively participating in the Utah Industrial Energy Efficiency Program (UIEEP). The program, which was initiated to help industrial customers increase their efforts in energy efficiency, has already seen massive energy savings. And that’s not only great news for Lifetime, but for the members of our community. May 5, 2012 was not only Cinco de Mayo but also a big day here at Lifetime Products. More than 900 of my fellow Lifetime co-workers and I had the opportunity to give back to our community by participating in Lifetime’s 7th Annual Community Service Project. This year, we helped clean and beautify the Utah State University Botanical Center in Kaysville, Utah. After initial groundwork preparation by over 75 employees on Friday evening, 880 employees arrived in florescent yellow shirts (looking like tennis balls from afar) armed with gardening tools on Saturday morning and got to work by removing debris, rocks, and weeds; planting flowers, grass and trees; cleaning ponds; painting fences, bridges and gates and spreading bark to help
What another great service experience last weekend! On Saturday, September 17, the remaining 500 Lifetime employees (who did not attend Ogden’s Service Project on September 10) helped clean up Loy Blake Park, East Park and West Point City cemetery in West Point, Utah to participate in Lifetime’s 6th Annual Employee Community Service Project. Between both projects, we dedicated approximately 2,700 man-hours, saving both cities thousands of dollars in labor to accomplish complete park makeovers. Last Saturday, September 10, 430 of my fellow co-workers and I spent three hours constructing a brand new walking and biking trail in Ogden City, Utah for Lifetime’s 6th Annual Local Community Service Project. Each year, Lifetime employees work off the clock and donate their time with our group community service project, earning credit toward Lifetime’s bi-annual employee benefit program that gives a percentage of the company’s profits to each employee. At Lifetime, we strongly believe that part of our corporate responsibility as a successful business is to support our local community. So, I am excited to tell you that this Memorial Day we will, once again, be hosting our "Salute Our Troops" event! This event will be held only at our Lifetime Store location in Riverdale, Utah. On Memorial Day, 5 percent of our proceeds will be donated to the Utah Military Families Foundation (UMFF), a privately-funded non-profit organization headquartered at Hill Air Force Base that supports over 80,000 military families throughout Utah. We blew out the candles so it must be official… Lifetime is 25 years old! As you know, we're celebrating all year long with sales, giveaways, and more. And, last Monday, we held a special 25 Year Anniversary Event at our factory headquarters in the Clearfield Freeport Center. Personally, I'm still amazed at how quickly we transformed a factory assembly line warehouse that was running on Friday into a trendy industrial meeting facility for the event on Monday. The place was decked out with product displays and live jazz music! Check out the pictures, pretty cool, huh? And, yes, it was back to an assembly line by Tuesday! Happy Birthday BSA! The Boy Scouts of America was incorporated and chartered by the United States Congress on February 8, 1910. That means this week, they are 101 years old! Last year, they reached a large milestone as they turned 100! In the summer of 2010, Lifetime received a phone call from a 14-year-old Scout named Mason. He was calling on behalf of the Spectrum program at the local Burton Elementary School in Layton, Utah (very close to Lifetime’s headquarters). Spectrum is a program designed to provide activities for children who are academically gifted. Among their activities, they put on a play once a year, which we hear is a great performance.
