How to Host A Road Rally Scavenger Hunt

Looking for a fun summer party idea for adults?  Try hosting a Road Rally Scavenger Hunt!  I've participated in three different Road Rallies and they are a blast.  So much fun! It's a great way to explore some new sights in your hometown and feel like a kid again. So, what is a Road Rally Scavenger Hunt?  Well, it's a little bit like the reality TV show "Amazing Race".  Teams drive around in cars following clues, complete tasks and challenges, and try to be the first to team to the finish line.  Depending on how creative the race coordinator is and how com

What NOT to Do When Assembling a Lifetime Basketball Hoop

A few months ago I forewarned you of the top three things to know before assembling a Lifetime Basketball Hoop. Today, I'm going to share with you some of the specific hurdles I alluded to in that post that we crossed along the way when assembling our own Lifetime Basketball Hoop (model 90228). To be honest, I'm kind of embarrassed to share my story with you given some of the pretty major "oopsies" we had.  After all, since I work for Lifetime, you'd think I'd know how to assemble the products.  Not necessarily true.  This was my first time assem

How to Make A Waterproof Banner in Minutes

Sometimes I just amaze myself with how stinkin' creative I am!  Just kidding.  But, I must say though, I am pretty tickled with the clever idea I came up with last week.  Our neighborhood was having a community garage sale, and two days before the sale, the HOA president agreed with my suggestion to hang a banner on the fence at the entrance of the subdivision to help advertise the sale.  We are located right behind a school so lots of parents turn around in our subdivision to drop-off/pick-up their children.  So, we wanted the banner to be out on Thursday and Friday to catch the school traffic. Since I was the one to suggest a banner, I felt obligated to volunteer to check on banner pricing.  Unfortunately, a one-day turnaround was not going to work in our favor, unless we wanted to pay through the nose. ...which we didn't want to do sin

Building Our Lifetime Shed - Step 1

Okey-dokey. So, our Lifetime shed arrived and we read through the assembling directions.  Now that we had the general idea of what we were about to undertake,  we were ready to start building our shed!   Well, sort of.  Before we could actually start assembling our Lifetime shed, we had to prepare the shed site. As you may recall, we plan to put our 8’x5’ Lifetime shed right up against our back fence.  But, our yard has a pretty significant slope and we can only dig about 6” before we hit solid rock…practically boulders in some spots!  And, lucky us, we also had a tree stump

Yum! BBQ Rat!

Like most people, I enjoy firing up the BBQ grill to cook dinner outside. I’m usually a big fan of steaks, marinated pork loins, and the occasional chicken breasts. Last week, however, I almost tried a new cut of meat… RAT!! Ugh. My husband opened the lid to light the grill and, much to his surprise, a rat was scurrying around under the rack! Unfortunately, this isn’t our first rat encounter. About a month ago, I was in our backyard and saw two rats run across our wooden fence. I FREAKED! We just had friends in a subdivision a few miles down the road who had one rat do $8,000 damage to their new house when a rat in their attic chewed through AC lines! And now, the nasty little vermin are daring to venture into my yard. Let me make it clear &nd

The Office Basketball Shot: Catch You on the Flippity Flip!

Like 7,742,484 other people, I follow NBC's The Office on Facebook and I'm a big fan of the show. Last night's tear-jerker was a great way to say goodbye to the Michael Scott we have come to love, and begin to close their seventh season. As part of the usual Thursday night ritual, I was curled up on the couch with a bowl of dinner and my favorite throw. I think I speak for all "Office Fans" at Lifetime when I say

Top 3 Things We Learned When Assembling Our Lifetime Basketball Hoop

So, a few weeks ago, I wrote about our decision to buy a Lifetime Portable Basketball Hoop - Model 90228.  Well, it's assembled, up, and the kids are loving it.  When the box arrived, the kids couldn't wait for us to put it together.  The cool thing about Lifetime basketball hoops is even though it's a pretty large product, it's actually packaged all in one box.  Granted, it's a big box (size varies slightly depending on the size of backboard you buy).  But, it easily fits in an SUV and probably in the trunk of most mid-sized cars.  By the way, did you know Lifetime actually invented packaging basketball hoops in one box?  Really, they did! Back in 1992. It may seem

Building Our Lifetime Shed – Step 2

Since it’s been over a week since I last blogged, you’re probably hoping that building our shed really didn’t really take this long!  Don’t worry, it didn’t.  I just haven’t had a chance to sit down and write about it amidst all of our Thanksgiving festivities, preparations for family visiting, and Christmas decorating. As you’ll recall, after almost a full day’s work, we finally had our ground leveled and our wood platform built for our shed.  We strategically planned to build our 8’x5’ Lifetime shed on Veteran’s Day since Mike would have the day off, but the kids would both be in preschool.  We were under a ticking time clock– five hours of uninterrupted, kid-fre

Spring Break in Port Aransas

Deep breath.  Looong slow exhale. Ok, I think I’m mentally ready to unwind from my spring break vacation and start writing.  As much as my parents deny it, they’re becoming Ohio snowbirds.  For the past two years they’ve packed their mini van full and moved to Texas for the month of March.  They rent a condo right on the beach in Port Aransas on Mustang Island.  I am very blessed that they choose to come to Texas rather than Florida so they can spend quality time with me.  Ok, who am I kidding, we all know it’s for the quality time with my kids, not me!  :) So, last week we headed to Port Aransas for spring break week to visit my parents.   Spring break at Port Aransas is… well, different.  I did the whole spri

Hosting A Backyard Campout Birthday Party

It's been almost three weeks.  Whew.  I think my husband and I have finally recovered.  I don't know what we were thinking but we somehow let our son talk us into a Backyard Campout Party for his 8th birthday.  (Sniff, sniff.  I still can't believe my little man is 8 years old already!)  It seemed harmless enough, but this was his first group sleepover and "no guests' parents" birthday party so it was a pretty big milestone for him -- and us.  After he made his list of neighborhood kids and classmates he wanted to invite, the list totaled 12 kids which sounded manageable.  After all, teachers do this all the time with lots more kids, right?   The kids were all talking about the party for days beforehand. In addition to the sleepover, the other "big deal" of the party was that they all walked home with my son fro
