Folding Table Tips

In the months since we’ve started this blog, I've received several questions regarding Lifetime's fold-in-half tables... interestingly enough, most people ask the basic question: How do you to unfold them? Esther from Niceville, FL wrote in yesterday: "I just bought your 5 ft fold-in-half table. It’s great, but I do not know how to open it up and there wasn't any directions. Sorry, I am 69 years old and not mechanically minded and am afraid that I might do something to mess it up..." How do you unfold it?? The first few times I’ve seen this question, I admit, I thought it wouldn’t be all that hard. But then I walked down to our showroom and tried to open a new table myself... it took a little more elbow grease thought! I looked into why this is, and it turns out our engineers developed these tables to stay safely c

Building Our Lifetime Shed - Step 1

Okey-dokey. So, our Lifetime shed arrived and we read through the assembling directions.  Now that we had the general idea of what we were about to undertake,  we were ready to start building our shed!   Well, sort of.  Before we could actually start assembling our Lifetime shed, we had to prepare the shed site. As you may recall, we plan to put our 8’x5’ Lifetime shed right up against our back fence.  But, our yard has a pretty significant slope and we can only dig about 6” before we hit solid rock…practically boulders in some spots!  And, lucky us, we also had a tree stump

Yum! BBQ Rat!

Like most people, I enjoy firing up the BBQ grill to cook dinner outside. I’m usually a big fan of steaks, marinated pork loins, and the occasional chicken breasts. Last week, however, I almost tried a new cut of meat… RAT!! Ugh. My husband opened the lid to light the grill and, much to his surprise, a rat was scurrying around under the rack! Unfortunately, this isn’t our first rat encounter. About a month ago, I was in our backyard and saw two rats run across our wooden fence. I FREAKED! We just had friends in a subdivision a few miles down the road who had one rat do $8,000 damage to their new house when a rat in their attic chewed through AC lines! And now, the nasty little vermin are daring to venture into my yard. Let me make it clear &nd

New Video Instructions To Help Assemble Your Shed!

Wow! Who would have thought our little homemade ‘How to Build our Shed’ video would have gotten so much attention. This little video one of our employees and her husband posted of building their shed at home a few years ago has more than 111,400 views. Our customers have told us how much they appreciate having videos along with the instructions to help guide them through their shed assembly. I am happy to announce we’ve provided even more shed assembly help videos. We have been working hard on producing videos that are specific to the various shed models we produce. We have taken the more difficult parts of our instruction manuals, as rated by our customers, and turned them into step-by-step videos. Customers can view these on their smart phones while out back building their s

Winter Kayak Storage Tips

It’s that time of year again for a lot of us.  Time to store that kayak away for the cold cold winter.  We are often asked about how to store a kayak while it is not being used, especially during the chilly winter months.  So today, I am here to offer up some winter kayak advice! First piece of advice, kayaks are not for sledding!  They go fast but they don’t like the cold, so keep them off of the snow!  Ok, now for the real tips.  As always, make sure you wash your kayak after use.  This is especially important when you will be putting it into storage for several months.  Mild dish soap and water works just fine, no need for fancy cleaners.  Make sure you remove sand and dirt, even from those little crevices. And, just think

Building Our Lifetime Shed – Step 2

Since it’s been over a week since I last blogged, you’re probably hoping that building our shed really didn’t really take this long!  Don’t worry, it didn’t.  I just haven’t had a chance to sit down and write about it amidst all of our Thanksgiving festivities, preparations for family visiting, and Christmas decorating. As you’ll recall, after almost a full day’s work, we finally had our ground leveled and our wood platform built for our shed.  We strategically planned to build our 8’x5’ Lifetime shed on Veteran’s Day since Mike would have the day off, but the kids would both be in preschool.  We were under a ticking time clock– five hours of uninterrupted, kid-fre

Plastic Sheds

Plastic storage sheds are a must-have for anyone that has a yard. Storage sheds in general help you to keep your tools and other “yard stuff” organized, out of the weather, and out of the yard. Bags of compost or fertilizer store well in a weather-proof shed, and if you lock your outdoor storage shed these potentially harmful bags can be stored out of reach of children, pets, or vandals. Too Much Outdoor Stuff and Not Enough Space to Store It? Enter to Win a Lifetime Storage Box!

This giveaway has ended. Like it or not, fall officially starts this weekend which means cooler temperatures will soon be on their way and - gasp - even snowflakes for some of us.  Time to start packing up all those fun new pool toys and floaties for the winter, plus those cute patio furniture cushions you bought this summer. Oh, and don't forget the kids' balls and outdoor toys, too.  Uh-oh.  If you're like me, this is when you start to think…  "Umm.  This stuff was great in the summer, but now where am I going to put everything when we aren't using it?" I completely understand your

A Face for Radio

This past Sunday afternoon I was able to skip out of church a little early to do a radio interview with our friends at 96.5 FM in Florida. Ken and Jared, father and son, do a weekly home improvement show called "In the House" where they invite “experts” in various categories to come talk about products to improve your home. As part of this interview, they are giving away a Lifetime 7'x7' Storage Shed model 60042. This was the third show of this type that I have done since I’ve been here at Lifetime. I keep a tally of the number of times I say “um” or “like” or some other filler word. This time I only counted

Keep Your Tools Organized With a Lifetime Shed

At dinner with some friends this weekend we got talking about my job at Lifetime. One of my friends said, “Lifetime makes a lot of cool stuff.” There is a reason I have started my seventh year here at the company… because I agree.  We do make a lot of cool stuff. Working in the Lawn & Garden category these past six years, I have seen a lot of new products. But the core of the category has always been our sheds. In fact, it was an idea to create a shed that launched the category, and thus, my job! One of the neatest innovations in our family of sheds, in my opinion, has been our 10x8 and 15x8 line. These sheds have proven to be very popular. One of the great things about them is the way they allow you to organize your stuff. With the entry on the long side, you can compartmentalize between right and left halves of the shed. This means that when you need
